Welsh Assembly Government Data Centre Audit, UK

The Welsh Assembly Government is the devolved government of Wales within the United Kingdom and has a budget responsibility of over 15 billion pounds.

Capitoline was appointed to audit a 400 m2 data centre built for the Welsh Government to ensure that it met the Tier rating and Power Usage Effectiveness, PUE, specified by the funding authority and principal users.

The new data centre at Torfaen in South Wales will be used by many public sector services such as the Po-lice and the National Health Service of Wales and also acts as a disaster recovery site for another major government data centre near Cardiff.

Capitoline audited the site including the taking of power readings at every stage of the power train from in-coming transformer to individual computer rack and calculated partial PUE per computer room (pPUE), site PUE and DCiE plus carbon footprint metrics of carbon dioxide output per square metre of floor space. Capitoline also certified the site against its tier rating for reliability and resilience.
