Leigh NHS Data Centre TIA942 Certification
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is the provider of acute hospital services to the people of the Wigan Borough and surrounding area. They provide district general hospital services for the local population of over 318,000. Specialist orthopaedic services are offered to a much wider regional, national and international catchment area. There are 4,658 members of staff and over 500 volunteers who all play their part in delivering high quality, safe and effective patient care.
In 2011 a comprehensive consolidation project formed a new data centre at the Leigh Infirmary site to offer secure IT services to the Trust and also for other selected public sector customers.
The Leigh IT management wanted to work to the best international standards and to eliminate as many Single Points of Failure (SPoF) as possible and also to increase the professionalism of the data centre management to make it more attractive to other potential users.
Capitoline advised the Trust through audits of the existing data centre site including an associated improvement plan to meet the international standard TIA-942. This was followed up with data centre operational training of the management which led to their own development of operational policies and procedures based on Capitoline’s advice. After further improvements to the site e.g. a comprehensive Building Management System implementation plan, Capitoline was pleased to be able award the Leigh Infirmary data centre TIA-942 certification.
Alan Moss, IT Service Support Manager at the Trust, said, “Working with Capitoline has been a pleasure and a great experience. Their continued support and guidance over the past couple of years has enabled the department to reach its goal and achieve accreditation for the datacentre”
Garry Harris, Head of IT Services at the Trust, said, “TIA-942 is a very challenging, best practice, standard to achieve and the amount of work required to meet this highly rigorous assessment should not be under estimated. If you are considering applying for this level of certification, post go live for your facility, you will need support and guidance from experts in Data Centre and Computer Room Design. Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust worked with Capitoline over a two year period to achieve accreditation for their datacentre and during this time we found their technical knowledge and mastery of this highly complex area exemplary, and their support, approach and training was first class”
